CELEBRATING THE MONTHLY HOLIDAYS
January
National Hot Tea Month is one of those fun celebrations that we like to claim for our own. Whether your day calls for a nice hot cup of tea or a tall iced tea, this is the month that we Hatters nurture ourselves with a nice cuppa choice.
January 1st celebrates New Year's Day, the first day of the New Year. Happy New Year, everyone!
January 26th Australia Day celebrates this Australian National holiday through family gatherings, picnics and barbecues; parades and citizenship ceremonies.
February
February 1st Go Red Day is the day with we don red dresses with our red hats in the support of the fight against heart disease in women.
February 6th Waitangi Day is a public holiday celebrating the signing of New Zealand's founding document in 1840.

March 10th celebrates Mothering Sunday in the UK. Mothering Sunday honors our Mothers. Mothering Sunday has been celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday in Lent since at least the
16th century. This holiday is celebrated on different days in different countries so we say, "We love you Mom, every day, in every way!"
March 17th Saint Patrick's Day is often celebrated with pints of green beer, delicious corned beef and cabbage but we Hatters are known for donning green boas that day!
April
April 7th celebrates World Health Day. The topic of World Health Day in 2012 is aging and health with the theme, "Good health adds life to years". We're all for that, aren't we?!
April 25th celebrates Red Hat Society Day. Remember the day that women gathered for tea in Fullerton, California as a group for the first time proudly wearing purple and Red Hats. On that spring day in 1998, they playfully dubbed themselves the Red Hat Society and the rest in history! Happy Birthday to Us!
April 30th celebrates Queen's Day in New Zealand. New Zealanders honor Queen Elizabeth II's birthday held on the first Monday in June. Happy Birthday, Queen Elizabeth II!
May
May 5th celebrates World Laughter Day. Customarily celebrated on the first Sunday in May, World Laughter Day promotes the benefits of unconditional laughter. This movement is committed to good health, joy and world peace through promoting the positive effects of laughter. Like every Hatter already knows... Laughter is the best medicine!
May 12th celebrates Mother's Day in the US, and is a special day in the honor of mothers. On Mother's
Day, children around the world play tribute to their mothers, and thank them for all that they do for them.
June

June is National Candy Month in the US. Nearly everyone loves a sweet treat. This may come as a surprise to health-conscious Hatters, but the number one goal for good nutrition is to eat a variety of foods each day. The lesson to be learned is to balance your diet, so there will be room for a little sweet treat! Undoubtedly, this celebration is a contrived ploy to sell candy, but we US Sisters loving invite Hatters everywhere to play along! Jellybeans for everyone!!!
July
July 1st celebrates Canada Day. Canada Day celebrates the anniversary of the founding of Canada. Fireworks mark the year's biggest nationwide party. This year some of our Canadian Sisters will be celebrating this special day at the Golden Age of Glamour in Las Vegas!
July 4th Independence Day in the US celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The day is filled with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, baseball games and family reunions.
July 7th - 21st is Hug Week. Participate as an Official Hug Holiday Hugger to increase hug abundance and make a difference, one hug at a time. Make sure to hug your Sisters!
August
August 4th celebrates World Friendship Day. A holiday that honors friendship seems only natural for us to celebrate - after all, our Hatter friends are some of the most important people in our lives. So this summer, whenever World Friendship Day is celebrated in your country, take the opportunity to show your Sisters how much you care about them. Or, why even wait? Call up your Chapterettes now and head out for fun!
September
September 8th celebrates Grandparents' Day. Many families in the United States observe National Grandparents Day on the first Sunday of September after Labor Day. This day honors grandparents. If you fall into this esteemed category, we wish you a wonderful day with family all around (or at least a good session of Skype)!
September 19th celebrates Talk Like A Pirate Day We can hardly believe it, but 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the worldwide celebration of International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Who knew that what was once was a goofy idea, celebrated by a handful of friends, has turned into an international phenomenon that shows no sign of letting up. (Thank you, Captain Jack Sparrow!) Red Hat Society Members caught the craze in 2008 at the RHS Savannah convention, and have been starting Pirate Chapters at every RHS convention since then. Avast smartly, me lass! October
October 8th Thanksgiving Day in Canada gives thanks for a bountiful harvest.
October 31st celebrates Halloween. There's much to do at this time of year worldwide, including dressing up and throwing parties. Typical festive Halloween activities include trick or treating, attending costume parties, carving of jack-o-lanterns, apple bobbing, playing pranks and telling scary stories. Will we see teeny tiny little Red Hatters knocking on our doors again this year asking for treats? So cute! Take a picture and email it to [email protected].
November
November 21st celebrates the 41th Annual World Hello Day. Anyone can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people with Hello! The point of all these Hellos is to demonstrate the importance of personal communication for preserving peace. In 1973, when this tradition began, most of us didn't have cell phones, a message board like our QMB, or even a Facebook page. Today, we have options to say Hello to Sisters all around the world! Yeah, Hatters - bring World Peace!
November 28nd Thanksgiving Day in the US celebrates the remembrance of the pilgrims and to give thanks.

December 26th Boxing Day in the UK celebrates a day that is primarily known as a shopping holiday. How Red and Pink Hat came to be?!
